COSCON: Princeton's Computer Science Contest

What is a COSCON?

Princeton’s Computer Science Contest is designed to get students of all walks excited and thinking about a variety of topics that arise in computer science.

Unlike hackathons or run-of-the-mill programming competitions, the problems in COSCON don't solely focus on the “coding” aspect of computer science: some of our problems will require the creative insight of a theoretician, while others may require the guile of a seasoned systems specialist. All you need to be able to do is think!
COSCON last fall featured  8 unique CS challenges. $15,000+ worth of prizes. 236 undergrad competitors. 21 graduate competitors. 17 different majors represented. 21 wonderful sponsors. 10 dedicated team members.

Checkout the problems from last year, which ranged in topic from algorithms, to internet security, to biology, to statistics, to cryptography, and more. Or if you're old school, then you can view archives of past competitions on Github: Spring 2021 and Fall 2021. We encourage you to try them out and send us any questions!

Frequently Asked Questions

Last year, COSCON was only open to Princeton University undergrads and grads. This year, we're working to expand COSCON to students (undergrads and graduates) of various other schools in the Greater NYC area. Stay tuned!

COSCON's installment for the 2022-2023 school year will be held sometime in the fall of 2022!

Yes, you can! Please reach out to ptonacm@princeton.edu to inquire about contributing a problem.

One of our goals for the upcoming contest is to offer more opportunities for students and sponsors to connect, especially in-person. A comprehensive list of our sponsorship opportunities can be found here. If your organization has some other cool idea for how to get involved, we would be happy to consider it and determine a sponsorship amount. If you're not looking to sponsor financially but are just looking to give us some advice (whether it be on the problems, fundraising, rules suggestions, etc.) contact us and we'll get back to you.
